Draw us forth, God of all creation.
Draw us forward and away from limited certainty
into the immense world of your love.
Give us the capacity to even for a moment
taste the richness of the feast you give us.
Give us the peace to live with uncertainty,
with questions,
with doubts.
Help us to experience the resurrection anew
with open wonder and an increasing ability
to see you in the people of Easter.

Ancient Easter Prayers

ancient easter prayers

Christ is Risen: The world below lies desolate. Christ is Risen: The spirits of evil are fallen. Christ is Risen: The angels of God are rejoicing. Christ is Risen: The tombs of the dead are empty. Christ is Risen indeed from the dead, the first of the sleepers, Glory and power are his forever and ever. — St. Hippolytus

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, by Your radiant and magnificent resurrection, You broke the bonds of death and rose from the grave as a conqueror. You reconciled Heaven and earth. Our life had no hope of eternal happiness before You redeemed us. Your resurrection has washed away our sins, restored our innocence, and brought us joy. How inestimable is the tenderness of Your love! — Saint Gregory the Great

Merciful, holy and faithful Lord Jesus Christ,
you died for our sins
and were raised for our justification,
in view of your resurrection,
we ask that you would awaken us also
from the grave of our sins and iniquities,
and grant us your grace
that we may partake
in your resurrection
at the final resurrection of all the dead. – St. Augustine

O Christ,
true Redeemer of the world,
when the angel rolled away the stone from the tomb
you triumphed over death in power
and you first announced your resurrection
to faithful women who eagerly sought you.
Deliver us from all weakness,
take away from our mouth
any ‘stone’ which would prevent
our confessing your name,
and grant that we may always delight in your service,
and loving you with increasing fervor,
may receive your eternal comfort. – Mozarabic, 7th century

O Lord Jesus Christ,
by your glorious resurrection,
you appeared alive and immortal to your disciples and faithful followers,
stayed with and taught them for forty days,
and showed them many infallible proofs,
speaking about the Kingdom of God,
and comforted them and assured them of your actual resurrection,
removing all doubt from their hearts.

O Lord,
grant that we may be numbered among those
chosen by God to be witnesses of your resurrection,
not only by word of mouth,
but in actions and truth,
for your honor and glory;
with the Father and the Holy Spirit
you live and reign as one God,
now and forever. – Ludolph of Saxony

Easter Prayers and Poems

Easter prayers and poems

“May the glad dawn
Of Easter morn
Bring joy to thee.
May the calm eve
Of Easter leave
A peace divine with thee.
May Easter night
On thine heart write,
O Christ, I live for thee!” –Anonymous

“It is finished”
words of agony from Jesus’ lips

“It is finished”
no greater love will again eclipse.

“It is finished”
these words aloud Jesus said
and for the sins of everyone
His soul hemorrhage and bled.

“It is finished”
but, what really had just begun
was that grace and forgiveness
were freely given by God’s Son.

“It is finished”
but, for you it can be a new start
if you repent now of your sin”and give Jesus your whole heart.

“It is finished”
Jesus died so that you’d be free
let His death on  Calvary’s cross
take your soul to its knees.

“It is finished”
but, it’s not the end of the story
not until the day all of mankind
stands before God’s in all His glory.

“It is finished”
words of hope from Jesus’ lips
“It is finished”
don’t let His love for you eclipse!

Deborah Ann Belka

My Redeemer lives,
He is alive and well
for in my heart . . .
His Spirit now dwells.
He loves me with,
such a deep affection
His death the epitome
of mercy’s perfection.

My Redeemer lives,
my faith in Him I place
He gave His life for mine
saved me with His grace.
His joy is everlasting,
it is mine now to claim
for He forgives my sin
when I call on His name.

My Redeemer lives,
He is alive in me today . . .
to His Father in Heaven
He is the true pathway!

Prayer Points for Easter

I always encourage my readers that no matter the prayers you read throughout Think About Such Things it’s far better to pray straight from your heart. I like reading prayers and inspiration and stir up my faith during times of prayer and devotion.

Remember prayer doesn’t have to be eloquent or poetic to gain God’s attention. God wants a heart that is real and raw. We see this throughout the Bible.

So, in this section we will explore some prayer points for Easter.

Easter Prayer Point #1 – Thanksgiving

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. – John 11:25

Easter is a time of reflection and praise for all Christ has done for us. So, take some time to give God thanks. Thank Him for being willing to go to the cross. Thank Him for enduring the sins of the world so we could have eternal life. Thank Him for rising from the dead and taking the keys back.

Easter should be filled with thanksgiving to the Lord!

Easter Prayer Point #2 – Transformation

And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. – Romans 8:11

I love what Romans 8:11 says…the SAME Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is in YOU! How amazing is that!? Pray saints that the Holy Spirit would transform your heart and mind to be more like Christ. Pray for Him to resurrect anything

Easter Prayer Point #3 – The Body of Christ

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;  – Colossians 1:9-10

During this Easter holiday lift up your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. You can do this personally as those you know in your local church or you can pray generally for all Christians.

Pray for them to experience the power of the resurrection of Christ in their life. That they would walk in the fullness of all that Jesus has done for them.

Easter Prayer Point #4 – The Lost

to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me. – Acts 26:18

It’s because of His death and resurrection that we are saved! Pray for those you know who don’t know the Lord. Pray for their salvation that they may fully grasp what Easter is all about and embrace Jesus into their hearts as their Lord and Savior.
