Psalm 8 is a beautiful hymn of praise that reflects on the majesty of God and the significant role of humanity in His creation. Written by King David, this Psalm marvels at the glory of God revealed in the heavens and the astounding thought that He would care for humans so profoundly.
It toggles between the vastness of the universe and the personal attention God gives to each of us, creating a sense of awe and gratitude.
If you’ve ever stared up at a star-filled sky or felt small next to the ocean’s crashing waves, you’ve already tasted the wonder that this Psalm expresses.
It’s a reminder of both God’s greatness and the dignity He has given to humanity as caretakers of His creation.
Take a moment to read through Psalm 8, letting its poetry take you from the grandeur of the galaxies to the intimacy of God’s love for you personally.

I highly recommend reading through the psalm slowly and even meditating on it before diving into the questions.
1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels
and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Guided Prayer
Quiet your heart, take a deep breath, and come before God with openness and gratitude.
Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth! Thank You for giving us glimpses of Your glory through the beauty of creation. The stars, the oceans, and even a flower in bloom—each one sings of Your creative power and infinite wisdom.
God, we are humbled that, in all of Your majesty, You are still mindful of us. You give us value and purpose, crowning us with glory and honor. Teach us to both rest in this truth and to live it out by honoring all that You’ve entrusted to us.
Help us to keep a sense of awe and wonder in our hearts. When life feels overwhelming or mundane, remind us of the grandeur of who You are and the beauty of being known and loved by You. Guide us to reflect Your light in how we care for others, for the earth, and for ourselves.
We praise You for Your greatness and thank You for Your nearness. May our lives always point back to Your glory.
In Jesus’ holy name,
Amen.
