We have looked at rainbows, the sun, the moon, and now we will look at the stars. Gazing at the stars always leaves you in awe and wonder. God didn’t hold back when He created the heavens all the celestial bodies.
But stars are really unique in scripture. From Genesis to Revelation stars are used literally, prophetically, and symbolically. We will take a look at that more throughout the post.

Stars In The Bible
For this post we will not be looking up terms like, “The hosts of heaven.” as stars. We will look strictly at the word star or stars.
The word star and stars are mentioned a total of 65 times in the KJV. And in those 65 references, we see such incredible diversity. We see stars meaning exactly what we know them to be…stars in the night sky! But we also see the word stars to describe angels or angelic hosts, both good and bad
Then we see the Lord using them symbolically in dreams like the one Joseph had and using a literal star in the sky to guide the wise men to baby Jesus. It’s incredibly fascinating and interesting.
And it also goes to show you that when you study a topic like stars in the Bible you really need to look at all the scriptures in context to get a good grasp of what they all entail.
God writes the Gospel not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars.

God Created The Stars
Genesis 1:16 NKJV – 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. [He made] the stars also.
Psalm 8:3 NKJV – 3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
Jeremiah 31:35 NKJV – 35 Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for a light by day, The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, Who disturbs the sea, And its waves roar (The LORD of hosts [is] His name):
Star of Bethlehem Verses
Numbers 24:17 NKJV – 17 “I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And destroy all the sons of tumult.
Matthew 2:2-10 NKJV – 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” 3 When Herod the king heard [this], he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: 6 ‘But you, Bethlehem, [in] the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ” 7 Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found [Him], bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.” 9 When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
Star Worship In The Bible & Astrologers
Worshipping stars was a very common thing in the ancient world, but God was very clear that He is the only one to be worshipped. As He is the creator of all things.
Deuteronomy 4:19 NKJV – 19 “And [take heed], lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and [when] you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the LORD your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage.
2 Kings 23:5 NKJV – 5 Then he removed the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem, and those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, to the moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.
Isaiah 47:13 NKJV – 13 You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels; Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, [And] the monthly prognosticators Stand up and save you From what shall come upon you.
Amos 5:26 NKJV – 26 You also carried Sikkuth your king And Chiun, your idols, The star of your gods, Which you made for yourselves.
I Will Multiply Your Descendants as the Stars of Heaven…
These bible verses about stars talk about the descendants of Abraham. Here stars are used symbolically to mean the children of Israel.
Genesis 15:5 NKJV – 5 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
Genesis 26:4 NKJV – 4 “And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;
Exodus 32:13 NKJV – 13 “Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit [it] forever.’ “
Genesis 22:17 NKJV – 17 “blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which [is] on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.
Deuteronomy 1:10 NKJV – 10 ‘The LORD your God has multiplied you, and here you [are] today, as the stars of heaven in multitude.
Deuteronomy 10:22 NKJV – 22 “Your fathers went down to Egypt with seventy persons, and now the LORD your God has made you as the stars of heaven in multitude.
Nehemiah 9:23 NKJV – 23 You also multiplied their children as the stars of heaven, And brought them into the land Which You had told their fathers To go in and possess.
1 Chronicles 27:23 NKJV – 23 But David did not take the number of those twenty years old and under, because the LORD had said He would multiply Israel like the stars of the heavens.

Judges 5:20 NKJV – 20 They fought from the heavens; The stars from their courses fought against Sisera.
Revelation 1:16-20 NKJV – 16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance [was] like the sun shining in its strength. 17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. 18 “I [am] He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. Isaiah 14:13 NKJV – 13 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north;
Revelation 2:1 NKJV – 1 “To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:
Job 38:7 NKJV – 7 When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Revelation 12:4 NKJV – 4 His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.
Constellations Bible Verses
Job 9:7-10 NKJV – 7 He commands the sun, and it does not rise; He seals off the stars; 8 He alone spreads out the heavens, And treads on the waves of the sea; 9 He made the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the chambers of the south; 10 He does great things past finding out, Yes, wonders without number.
Isaiah 13:10 NKJV – 10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine.

Ezekiel 32:7 NKJV – 7 When [I] put out your light, I will cover the heavens, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, And the moon shall not give her light.
Daniel 8:10 NKJV – 10 And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down [some] of the host and [some] of the stars to the ground, and trampled them.
Revelation 8:10-12 NKJV – 10 Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. 11 The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter. 12 Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. Joel 2:10 NKJV – 10 The earth quakes before them, The heavens tremble; The sun and moon grow dark, And the stars diminish their brightness.
Joel 3:15 NKJV – 15 The sun and moon will grow dark, And the stars will diminish their brightness.
Mark 13:25 NKJV – 25 “the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
Matthew 24:29 NKJV – 29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
Revelation 6:13 NKJV – 13 And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.
Revelation 9:1 NKJV – 1 Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit.
