40 Biblical Affirmations To Strengthen Yourself In The Lord

In this article we will explore a selection of Biblical affirmations you can use daily. These Christian affirmation will encourage and build up your faith. But another benefit is that they will help you learn what Bible says. So, let’s get started…

Several years ago I went through a really hard season. My identity in Christ was really being tested. I had issues at the office, and a relationship with a guy that was a rollercoaster. And not the fun kind, but the one you want to get off as soon as possible.

During this time I was in prayer and I saw this picture of Bible affirmations written out on paper. They were all hanging up on my bathroom mirror. I felt strongly that this was from the Lord.

So, I went through the Bible and found scriptures that hit head on on what I was going through. I wrote them out on paper and stuck on the mirror. And daily I would spoke them outloud, many times this also included prayer.

It helped me tremendously through that rough season. Everytime the enemy spoke lies to me about being rejected, or a failure. I spoke those affirmations over myself.

Biblical affirmations

And it’s that season of using Christian affirmation that has led me to writing this post! But before we just dig right into it, I want to cover some other important points.

FAQ About Christian Affirmations

If you are new to affirmation, you might have some legitimate questions on the topic. And for good reason…. some stuff we see people practicing these days can be rooted in the new age/demonic and be very harmful to our spiritual life.

Affirmations are short “powerful” statements that you declare over yourself or a situation. The goal for those who practice using affirmations is that they want these statements to not just be words, but to become internal truths that will transform the way they think, and act. Some go as far to believe that affirmations can alter situations and others.

Affirmations in and of themselves are not a sin. The type affirmation, and the motive behind doing the affirmations is what can lead us to sin. Christians need to exercises wisdom when using affirmation. Making sure they are rooted and grounded in the Bible.

Christian Affirmations or Bible Affirmations are very different than secular ones. These are rooted in God Word and the goal is that these statements is to transform our minds to the minds of Christ. (Romans 12:2)

I do believe that speaking God’s Word over your life will not just strengthen your faith, but help bring transformation to the way you think. The Bible is a powerful tool and has the ability to bring change to our life.

This is totally up to personal preference. I recommend speaking it out loud, because as you hear God’s truths it builds your faith.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. – Romans 10:17 NKJV

All Biblical affirmations are spiritual affirmations, but not all spiritual affirmations. The term spiritual can relate to ChristianityJudaism, Islam, HinduismBuddhism, and many more. But it can even go beyond main world religions and into spiritual/religious belief systems like new age.

Biblical Affirmations are statements coming straight from the Bible and something Christians (Protestant and Catholic) would use to help them strengthen their faith.

How To Use Bible Affirmations

Everyone has their own style and way of doing affirmations. But I want to share how I do it. It’s super simple, but I find doing these 4 steps to work very well.

Practicing Biblical Affirmations Daily

  • Set 3-5 Minutes daily to do your affirmations. Preferably in the morning.
  • Grab your affirmations. This can be written on cards, a printable, or posted on a mirror (think sticky notes!).
  • Go through each affirmation slowly and speak it out loud. Make sure not to go quickly through each one, but take your time. Let God’s truth touch you.
  • My personal twist – Add prayer to your affirmation. I like to pray while I’m doing my affirmations. What does this look like? For me, I will speak out the verse and say the statement. Then right after that I asked the Lord to help me have His truth transform me. If it’s an area of struggle I might spend a little time praying into it.

Warning About Religious Affirmations

I thought it would be good to share some concerns I do have when it comes to Christian’s using affirmations. These are 5 things I want you to be mindful when practicing this.

  1. In our culture, we love the idea of a quick easy fixes. Affirmations are not going to just poof magically change your life. Growth and maturity take you putting your hand in God’s hand walking with Him.
  2. Christian Affirmations even with Bible verses should not replace your prayer time or Bible reading.
  3. As Christians, we should only practice affirmations that are rooted in scripture.
  4. Many verses throughout the Word of God are conditional. Saying a Biblical affirmation and calling it done is not going to bring transformation in your life. An example would be:

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. – James 4:7

We all want the devil to flee from us, but the condition is that we must submit ourselves to the Lord, and resist the devil. Saying an affirmation like: The devil flees from me. Is not going to help you. This is why I encourage you to read the verse as well as saying the statement. This way you understand if there is a condition within the verse.
  5. When you speak out a statement, don’t constantly repeat it over and over again. Your affirmation should be a declaration and not a mantra. “And when you pray, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.” – Matthew 6:7

Biblical Affirmations

And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. – Romans 12:2 AMP

The Biblical affirmation have been broken up into sections. I hope this makes it easier for you to find something that works for the season you are in.
