God Is Doing a New Thing in Our Lives, Do We See It?

In this article, we how God is doing a new thing and 5 signs on how we can recognize this in our lives. So, grab your Bible, and let’s start learning.

God is always doing a new thing in our lives but we may not always see it or feel it. Sometimes it feels like we have stayed in one season for a long time. I know I have been there. And we all wonder when it will change or looking for a breakthrough.

We can get encouragement from Isaiah 43:19 which shows us that God is at work in our lives doing new things.

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. – Isaiah 43:19

The above Scripture shows us that God gives us signs that He is doing a new thing in our lives. “do you not perceive it?”

We need to learn to discern the signs and prepare ourselves accordingly. He does this so that we can know that He is about to bless us in a big way. If you sense that God wants to do something in your life, pray about it and ask Him for a revelation. He is faithful to show you.

Now, truth be told we don’t always see what God is doing in our lives. I remember feeling frustrated and confused countless times because I didn’t understand the season God had me in.

God is doing a new thing

I’ve learned in those times to press through in prayer and trust that He will give me the wisdom and grace needed.

A while back I was going to intern for this ministry team at church, but as the time got closer that department of the church all of sudden stopped. I was devastated I had planned for months to intern in that position and poof it was gone. God then opened another door for me. It’s not what I wanted and I didn’t understand why God would close that door and open one that I didn’t feel would help my calling.

It wasn’t years later until I realized that internship prepared me in ways I would need in the future. God knew it and was gracious enough to change my path.

You may not always understand the things God does in your life, but if you follow His lead, you will see the fruit of what He is doing. Never assume that because you cannot see what God is doing that He is doing nothing.

He works behind the scenes to bring things to pass in our lives. In the meantime, we can prepare for everything that God wants to bring into our lives.

5 Signs that God is Doing a New Thing in Your Life

1.   Some Doors Close

When God is doing something new in your life, you will notice that some doors begin to close. You may try hard to knock on them, but nothing works. Much like what happened to me with my internship position.

This is a clear sign that God wants you to walk through another door that He has opened for you. If you look around your life and see that there are things you are trying to do unsuccessfully, it is time to ask God to lead you to the new thing He is doing in your life.

2.   God Gives You Repetitive Messages

When things are changing in our lives, God will give us repetitive messages from different sources. You will hear a sermon, read a blog post, or watch a YouTube video that talks about the new thing God wants to do in your life. Sometimes God will even give you a dream or vision or have someone speak something over you.

It is like the message is everywhere you go. This is God trying to get your attention and get you to prepare for your new beginning.

3.   You Have a Desire for the New Thing God is Doing

When God wants to do something new in your life, you will find that you begin to desire it. It’s actually pretty amazing. It can be something you never wanted to do and all of sudden you want to.

Another way He does this is by giving us grace for the change. It’s like we have the supernatural ability to accomplish what God has placed in front of us. It doesn’t mean it will be all sunshine and rainbows. It means we will have the strength, wisdom, and peace to do it.

4.   God Leads You in a New Direction

When God wants to do a new thing in our lives, He will point us in a particular direction. You will find that your life is moving in a new and exciting direction and as you follow God’s lead, doors begin to open. Opportunities open up in the direction God is taking you and everything flows.

5.   God Sifts Your Relationships

When God wants us to move in a new direction, He sifts our relationships. Some of them remain and others fizzle away. Not everyone is headed where God is taking you, and some people have to be left behind so that they don’t hold you back.

God will also bring new relationships into your life that will be a blessing and instrumental in doing what He calls you to do. We have to pray so that we know which relationships to keep, and which ones to let go.

I had a friend who I hung out with quite a bit in ministry school. We were part of the same homegroup and did ministry together. But I noticed that as I kept pursuing my calling and relationship with Christ that our friendship seemed to hinder me. The types of conversations we would have were not edifying me but pushing me away from the Lord.

I really enjoyed her friendship and didn’t want to hurt her in any way. So, I prayed. I asked the Lord if what I was feeling was from Him and if it was that He would put a gentle wedge in between us and that our friendship would distant itself.

And that is exactly what He did! She started hanging out with other people and I started to hang out with some other people. Slowly and naturally our friendship distanced itself. We are still good acquaintances and talk when we see each other.

How to Prepare for the New Thing God is Doing

It’s important to prepare for what God wants to do in your life!

God will show you how to prepare and the things you need to do. Preparation helps us to be ready to receive the new thing into our lives and create room for it. The new thing could be a job, marriage, relocation, ministry, season change etc.

Keep an open mind because you don’t always have all the details of what God wants you to do. I encourage you to also spend time in prayer as you are transitioning. This will help you spiritually prepare for what new things the Lord has ahead.

When God is about to do a mighty new thing He always sets His people praying.

Jonathan Edwards

God says that His ways and thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9) and we can align our thoughts to His for a clearer perspective. When we see things from God’s viewpoint, we will begin to see what He wants to do in our lives.

Practical Tips on Preparing for New Season

  • Cover yourself and family in prayer.
  • Dig into the Word. Ask God to bring clarity to your season in scripture. Something my pastor used to always say is, “find youself in the Psalms.” Sometimes God will highlight a psalm or story in scripture that relates to what He is doing in your life.
  • If the new season involves a career change or new ministry. Focus on developing the skill you need for this new position. This could be reading books, taking a class, or reasearching.
  • If the new season involves transitioing to a new locations. Then I encourage you learn about the new area. Go visit it and learn about it history and what is there.
  • If the new season involves relationships…make time to develope them. Be proactive in the relationship and help nuture that connection God has placed in your life. If it’s a romantic relationship that could lead to marriage. Look into reading books on the topic, going to pre-marriage counsling, and asking for accountability within your relationship.

You may have waited for a long time to see some things happen in your life. This is the season that God wants to bring those things into manifestation in your life.

You may have lost hope, but remember that God does not forget the things we ask of Him. So, it is important to prepare even when you don’t see it. For example, feeling called to full-time ministry. The door may not be open yet, but you can still prepare. Maybe by volunteering as a Sunday school teacher or hosting a homegroup.

Remember in the right season, He brings things to pass!

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens –
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that there is a time and season for everything. God will do things in the right season of your life, at His appointed time.

We sometimes expect that God will do something for us in our desired season but this may not be the right time. This can be hard and discouraging but don’t lose hope. Prepare for the things God is calling you to!

Patiently wait for the Lord because He will have to align things in your favor as He does a new thing in your life. Your waiting will never be in vain, it will prepare your heart for the new and help you let go of the old.

Isaiah 43:19 is a Scripture that encourages us greatly and shows that we can always expect God to do new and exciting things in our lives. That He is always at work in our lives!

It may have been a long time since you last saw a breakthrough in your life, but you can be sure that God is working behind the scenes. Today in prayer I encourage you to thank God for the things He is about to do in your life and that He would prepare you for what is ahead.
