When a brand new baby is born into a family, it’s such a huge blessing and joy. It’s like a bright light has come into a home. These little humans can bring such a tremendous impact. It’s like what Psalms 127:3-5 says about children; that they are like arrows in the hand of a warrior and that they are blessed.
Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court. – Psalm 127:3-5
Even though these newborns and infants are a blessing, they also need our prayer covering. So, today I wanted to share different prayers. You can pray for your newborn or for someone else’s newborn. But before we get started, let’s cover some important tips!
Important Tips For Prayers for Newborns
- Let Your Prayers for the Newborn Be Specific – If you know specific information about the infant, or the parents. Then I encourage you to use that information in prayer. For example, use the baby’s name. Another example is if you know the baby is dealing with colic or is having a hard time sleeping. Use this information to help better pray.
- Let Your Prayers for the Newborn Be Heartfelt – It’s easy to just recite a written prayer and it does not come from your heart. When praying, I encourage you to take these prayers as an inspiration for you to pray from your heart. Remember, God is interested in YOU and wants to hear from YOU.
- Continue to Pray – It’s easy to see a perfect little newborn and pray for them once and think they are good! But we should continue to cover this little one as they grow, especially for their health, salvation, heart.

Prayer of Blessing for the Newborn Baby
Lord God, the perfect and gracious, the giver of every good and perfect gift. It is with great joy and thanksgiving that we receive this beautiful baby. Lord, bless this baby- let them grow in perfect health of body and soul. Lord keep them from sicknesses and infirmities.
Let their hands bring warmth and artistry to every work that they do. Let their feet carry hope to every place that they go to. Let their existence bring along solutions that the community has always waited for. As they grow, let them become an aroma of hope to a hopeless world. Lord, let them ever increase in wisdom and stature, and may they find favor with God and with men. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen!
A Prayer for the Infant to Grow Strong and Healthy
Lord, the all-powerful God, O that this baby will grow in strength and health. We pray that every tissue, muscle, and organ will be perfect in health. Let the immunity of this infant be strengthened against every infectious disease.
Let the blood of Jesus Christ Your Son cover this baby against every skin disease. Lord, let the eyes of both their souls and their body be clear to keep them moving and to keep them blameless. Lord Jesus, let them from Your abundance receive strength and might to live and work. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen!
A Prayer for the New Born Baby to Sleep Well
Tonight Lord, as we lay this baby to sleep, we are grateful for the day we enjoyed with them. Lord, we pray that You will protect them against all nightmares. May You command Your angels to keep watch over them. We ask that Lord Jesus this baby will have a calm night and enough rest. May You take away any discomfort and disruptions that may come by.
We ask that they shall not be restless through the night and that even their tummy time will just be enough for the night. Thank You for protection over the night. We are grateful that this baby is waking up healthy and in a good mood tomorrow. Thank You Father for because of this calm night, dad/mom will also be able to rest well in Jesus Name I pray, amen.
A Prayer for the Mother and the New Born Baby
Lord, we pray for the mother of the baby and her infant. Thank You for how far You have brought them. As she embarks on this journey we pray that You will be her beginning. Father Lord, we pray that You will take away any anxiety in her. Fill her with wisdom on how to balance everything. Give her the strength and grant her Your grace which is sufficient at all times.
When she is overwhelmed by everything, may You grant her Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Lord Jesus, may she never forget that You are with her throughout this journey. We also pray for her infant that they will not be troublesome but calm. As they adjust to everything, be with them. In Jesus Name. Amen.
A Prayer for the Father and the Newborn Baby
Lord God, we thank You for Your fatherhood, indeed we acknowledge You are the ideal father. We pray that this father will learn how to be a father to this baby following Your example. May You become a guide to him as he provides, as he protects, and as he gives identity to this baby.
Lord, give him the strength to remain faithful as a father and to not neglect this baby either emotionally or physically. We pray that as the baby grows, they will learn to respect their father. They will learn what it means to honor and cherish their father. We pray that they will not become a source of stress and regrets to their father. We pray that this baby will become a source of joy and pride to their father. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen!
A Prayer for the Sick Newborn Baby
Lord, You are perfect in all of Your ways. We know that even in sickness there remains a reason why You allow men to be afflicted. But we also acknowledge that You are Rapha, our Healer. You take pride in blessing Your people with healing for Your Name’s sake, that You may get the glory for Yourself. Today, see this beautiful baby that You have given us, see the pain and the agony that they have.
See the tears of their parents. Rapha, we pray that You may heal this baby from the top of their head even to their toe. Let the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings over this baby. Let every sickness bow to the blood of Jesus Christ. We pray that the balm of Gilead will restore them to perfect health in Jesus’ Name. Thank You, Lord, for Your healing. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen!
Prayers for the Newborn Baby Boy
Lord Jesus, to hold a baby boy is a great blessing. We thank You for the authority that is vested upon this infant. We thank You for the responsibility that is vested in this infant. Let their childhood be foundational for the responsibilities that come with maturity.
Let every influence that is geared to kill and destroy their identity and purpose be destroyed in the precious Name of Jesus Christ. Keep them against pride, against drug abuse, against impurity, and every kind of vice that may seek to destroy their influence.
We pray that they will be able to understand both the meaning and the responsibility of manhood. We pray that they will grow to honor their father and their mother. Jesus, we ask You that You may guide them through this life.
Let them become inventors, let them become physicians, let them become leaders, and let them become honorable fathers that children can look up to. We pray that God, Your image upon them will be visible and growing in them. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen!
Prayers for the Newborn Baby Girl
Lord Jesus, what a beauty to hold a newborn baby girl. It is such a privilege. Let her be a fruitful baby in her father’s house and outside her father’s house. Let every wickedness that is aimed at sabotaging little girls be thwarted in the Name of Jesus. We ask You Lord to protect her against rape, abduction, abuse, slavery, and addictions.
Let her become like Mary in her purity. Let her become like Abigail in her wisdom and like Esther in beauty. Let the potential that is vested in her continually grow from her childhood to adulthood. Let her music rise, let her art rise, let her leadership rise, let her abilities keep her focused in life. Let her childhood prepare her for every responsibility that comes with womanhood. We pray that wisdom and knowledge shall rest upon her in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen
