Lean how we can pray for your future husband and keep the faith while waiting on the Lord for your spouse.

How To Pray For Your Future husband

As a Christian single, it can sometimes be very hard to be in that waiting season. You can deal with a slew of emotions like frustration, hopelessness, and rejection. And to be real it’s not fun. Trust me I’m in my 30’s and still single!

I have gone through all those emotions and then some. So, what is a Christian single to do?

Well, first off there is a lot of things we can do and I hope to write about some of those in the future. And if you have a good sense of humor you can check out my being single memes. But today I want to talk about praying for your future husband. This can also work for praying for your future wife.

Praying For Your Soulmate??

I want to touch on this topic before we break things down on how we can pray for your future husband.

When it comes to finding the right person it can get a little cloudy with some people’s theology or beliefs on what God thinks on the topic. I don’t want to go into a debate.

Some people believe there is only one person that we are supposed to be with. Others think there is many options and God leaves it up to us to choose who we want. Both are extremely opposites.

But before we continue I do want to say a few things about the idea of a soul mate.

First, there is no such thing as a “soul mate” in scripture. That actually comes from greek mythology.

Plato wrote about it in Symposium. In his writing, he states that humans were actually androgynous creatures.

Having 4 arms, 4 legs, two faces and to make it even weirder 2 sets genitalia. Then Zeus got threatened by these “weird creatures.”

So, he decided to split up all the humans and now they go around trying to find their “other half.”

This is where we get all those common and even modern terms for couples:

  • My better half….
  • My other half…
  • My soulmate…
  • He/She completes me…
  • My ying to my yang…

I do have my beliefs how God orchestrates romance and marriage. You can agree or disagree but from what I can see in scripture God does set things up.

Here are just a few examples in scripture:

  • Isaac and Rebecca
  • Ruth and Boaz
  • David and Abigail

He places people in our lives that would be a good fit for us and then we out of our free will can either say yes to that person or no.

Sometimes He will make that clear to us and other times He will let us make the decision.

I also believe that if God does bring a person into your life for the purpose of marriage then that person will always be a strength/asset to your spiritual life. And your calls will unite (doesn’t have to look the same, but they sync).

For the sake of time, I won’t go into that today, but I do recommend an incredible book on the topic. It is written by John Mark Comer, titled Loveology: God. Love. Marriage. Sex. And the Never-Ending Story of Male and Female.

How to Pray for Your Future Husband

Now praying for your husband and praying for “A” spouse are two very different things. This is not petitioning God to, “pretty please send me a man, Jesus!”

If God has placed a desire in your heart, then trust and believe that He will fulfill that desire.

He lives outside of time and knows exactly who you will marry, the names of your kids and who they will marry…etc.

He sees it all. So pray like He does.

If you have read any of my other blog articles you will know I like to keep things simple and practical.

So, let’s get down to business (hopefully you don’t get the song from Mulan stuck in your head)

God is a triune being and since we are made in His beautiful likeness we are also triune in nature. We have a body, soul, and spirit.

So, we will be praying for all 3 of those areas for your future husband. Look at them as prayer points! You can break these up when you pray. One time pray for their health or spiritual life then another day pray for their finances.

Let the Holy Spirit lead you…their will be times He will put something on your heart to pray.

Praying for Future Husband’s Body

Health- Praying for the physical health of your spouse and that God would protect his/her body from sickness and diseases.

Purity – Praying God would keep them physically pure till marriage

Praying for Future Husband’s Soul

Healthy Heart and Emotions – Praying for your spouse to have a healthy heart. That even though they may have encountered heart-ache it hasn’t stopped them from living the way God has called them too.

And protection from anything happening in their future that would cause them emotional harm.

Finances – Praying for God to prosper your spouse with their finances. Finances can be stressful and hard on an individual. Pray that they would have a job they love and be paid well for it.

Character – Pray for the Lord to build solid character traits within your future spouse. Things like integrity, boldness, resilience, generosity, kindness and patience.

Godly Friendships – It’s importation that we realize that the people surrounding your spouse right now are helping him/her be shaped and molded. Pray for them to be loving, kind, and a Godly influence in their lives.

Praying for Future Husband’s Spirit

An Ernst Desire For God – Praying for a hunger, passion, and love for God that drives everything they do. (This is something I have prayed for my spouse since the age of 16 is that he would be like David, and be a man after God’s own heart.)

Someone Who Knows The Word – Praying for a hunger and understanding for the scripture.

Identity and Call- Praying for them to know who they are in Christ and for them to be walking in the revelation, but don’t stop there. Also, be praying that they have a revelation of their call and mandate on their lives.

A Prayer for a Future Husband

Time to be real. I am not a huge fan of reciting someone else’s written prayers. It’s fine when it’s heartfelt and connected to where you are at. But most of the time it can feel empty. I mention this a lot in my prayer points posts.

We want prayers that come from our heart. So, with this prayer I am going to share…let it be something that inspires you or use it as a diving board into your own personal prayer for a future husband.

Heavenly Father, I come before you today asking that you would bless the man you know one day I will marry. I ask Lord that you would protect him and that no harm would come near him. Please, send your angels to be around about him. Give him wisdom in the decisions he makes and provide for his needs. And Lord place a deep love and hunger for You and your Word. Jesus, you know when we will meet. Give me peace and patience to wait for that set time. Thank you for this man and help me to become a wife that will be a strength and asset to his life. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!

Just think about covering your future spouse like that in prayer! What an incredible blessing you are to their life without them even knowing it. You are planting seeds that you will reap in your marriage.

I hope this encourages some of you still waiting for that special someone. Take heart you are not alone and that God does give grace and comfort us in this time of waiting. You just need to ask Him.

  1. Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing this comprehensive list of prayer points. I’m not sure I’ve ever broken it down that way.
So, you want him to be like David? Good to exclude the other parts of David 😀

    1. Thanks! 🙂 Haha yes like David as in a heart like David had (A man after God’s own heart – 1 Samuel 13:14 & Acts 13:22) Even with David’s shortcomings and failures he always ran towards God. He pursued God’s will and was a man of worship. A soft heart is a heart God can use. That’s the kind of heart I want in my husband.
