In this post, we will look at 9 needed prayers for the church. We will go through each prayer point for the church and how we can pray them. You can use them in your alone time with the Lord or corporately.
The Church has always needed prayer covering. And in this day and age, we need it, as so much change and ideologies are being created within our culture at a rapid pace.
The crazy thing is that it’s nothing new under the sun. This is the same stuff the ancient world dealt with. Just now it’s wrapped up in a modern twist. But with modern technology, everything spreads so fast.
Therefore, it’s important for us to cover the body of Christ in prayer. That’s why I have come up with 9 prayer points for the church.
And I truly believe these prayers for the church make a difference. It says in God’s Word that the prayers of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16)
So, please join me with these prayers. Pray them over your home church, pray them over the churches in your nation, pray them for the church worldwide. We are all in need of them!
Intercessory Prayer Points for the Church
When it comes to praying, these prayer points. You can go about it a couple of different ways.
You can go through each point and pray during your prayer time with the Lord. Or you can just take one point and pray it for today and tomorrow take another point.
You can break it up any way you like. Just remember, there is no formula when it comes to prayer. God desires prayers that are real and come from the heart.
Also, to help, I have provided Bible verses for each point. You can use them to pray back to God.

Church Prayer Point #1: Unity
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard,
The beard of Aaron,
Running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon,
Descending upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing—
Life forevermore. – Psalm 133
Unity is crucial in the church! A kingdom divided against itself can’t stand. (Mark 3:24) Pray for unity within the believers, leadership, and denominations. Even go into praying for unity within the marriages of your fellow sister and brothers in Christ.
If the church on a whole would unite, we would see incredible breakthroughs and souls come to the Lord.
Church Prayer Point #2: Love
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. – John 13:35
God’s love literally changes everything. Here are some key ways you can pray for love in the church:
- Pray for a greater understanding of God’s love
- Pray for believers to walk in God’s love towards each other
- Pray for the church to have a greater love for the lost
- Pray for church leaders to grow in God’s love towards their teams, congregations, and the lost.
- Pray for the church to fall more in love with Jesus
Church Prayer Point #3: Power
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. – 2 Peter 1:2-4
The church is greatly in need of God’s power. Pray for God’s power to be manifested and demonstrated in the church. That lives would be transformed, pain and sicknesses would leave, emotional healing would take place, marriages restored, and many other testimonies of God’s power would take place.
Our God is alive and at work!
Church Prayer Point #4: Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation
15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints – Ephesians 1:15-18
Pray for the spirit of wisdom and revelation to rest upon the church. That the eyes of the church would be opened to understand His calling. When we see and understand we can then take action.
Church Prayer Point #5: Humility
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. – 2 Chronicles 7:14
In this day and age, the church can struggle with humility. From celebrity Christianity to seeking popularity on social media. We, as a church, need to be praying for humble hearts and humility. Here are some key things to pray.
- Ask God to guard and keep soft the hearts of those church leaders who are in the spotlight.
- Pray that the church as a whole walk in humility towards each other and the lost.
- Pray for protection for the church against pride and offense.
Church Prayer Point #6: Hunger
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. – Matthew 5:6
You can call it any way you like it…hunger, passion, or zeal. This is the fire that burns inside of us. This is an important one to pray for the church because it’s the very thing Jesus called out to the church in Ephesus in Revelation 2:4… “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.
Pray for hunger and passion to be restored to the church. That the body of Christ would seek the face of God like never before.
Church Prayer Point #7: Boldness
Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” – Acts 4:29-30
Being politically correct and timidity has crept into the church. If we want to see lives changed than the church needs to become bold again. We must proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Here are some key things to pray.
- Pray that the church would not fear and act out of timidity.
- Pray that with boldness the gospel would be preached and that God would move powerfully.
- Pray that the church would value and stand for God’s truth over political correctness or cultural ideologies.
Church Prayer Point #8: Peace
Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. – Romans 14:19
God’s peace has the abilities to stop the winds of the strongest of storms. We face these storms personally, and corporately. Pray for God’s peace to cover our minds, hearts, and situations. That we would be peacemakers wherever we go.
Church Prayer Point #9: Pray for the hurting
I had finished writing this post when it came to my heart how many Christians need prayer because they have been hurt by church leadership or other Christians. Make it a point to pray for these hurt individuals.
Here are some key things to pray for:
- Forgivness
- Not to harbor offense or rejection
- To heal their heart
- Restoration and reconciliation
I hope these prayer points for church encourage you to pray for the body of Christ. I also encourage you to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit as you pray. He may guide you to pray more specifically or on other things the church needs.
May God hear our cries for His church and move mightly!
