10 Simple Thanksgiving Dinner Prayers To Say Grace

In this article, I will share some Thanksgiving dinner prayers you can use to say grace over your Thanksgiving meal!

Thanksgiving is a time-honored tradition centered around gathering with loved ones, reflecting on blessings, and giving thanks. The holiday spirit can be felt as homes are filled with the smells of nostalgic dishes, warmth of family bonds, and joy of making memories together. It’s really a wonderful holiday!

Among the most significant Thanksgiving traditions for many families is pausing before the meal to offer a prayer of gratitude to the Lord.

As believers, we understand that God is the ultimate Provider of our blessings. His grace and sustaining power are the reason we have food, shelter, loved ones, and freedoms.

Pausing for prayer is a way we can actively recognize His generosity, care for us, and presence in both difficulties and celebrations.

Gratitude oriented prayer or what the Bible calls thanksgiving, aligns our hearts with truth – God is daily working on our behalf and showering us with good gifts. He alone is worthy of our praise!

This is why I thought I would share some dinner prayers for Thanksgiving! Each prayer focuses on thanking God for His provision while reflecting on different blessings representative of the holiday.

It is my hope that these examples will spark creativity and provide helpful inspiration as you seek to incorporate gratitude into your celebration. May these prayers launch you into the holiday weekend with praise, unity, and focus on the abundance of God.

Before We Look At Dinner Prayers for Thanksgiving

There are some important things I want to cover before we look at these Thanksgiving prayers.

The prayers I provide are generalized to work for most families. But the thing is, God doesn’t want you to be a robot and recite someone else’s prayer. He wants to hear from YOU!

So, I want to encourage you to personalize the prayers below. Here are simple ways you can do that:

  • Mention specific people during the prayer.

This can be a special person you want to honor like mom and dad, or someone who is missing in the family, someone who is sick, or you can mention each person there individually. It’s up to you!
  • Mention specific situations during the prayer.

An example is if guests drove hours or flew to get to Thanksgiving dinner, make note of that in prayer, giving thanks to the Lord for their safe travels and the blessing they are to be there.
  • Mention specific events during the prayer.

Did someone recently have a wedding, baby, birthday, anniversary, promotion…etc? This is a great time to give thanks to the Lord for this joyous event!
  • Mention a specific Bible Verse during prayer.

Most of the prayers below share a Bible verse, but if there is one the Lord has highlighted to you, then feel free to use that in your prayer to help guide you as you pray.

Thanksgiving Dinner Prayers

As, I mentioned earlier some of these dinner prayers have Bible verses. You are more than welcome to check them out on Biblegateway.com and compare different versions.
