Good Morning God: How To Powerfully Pray In the Morning

A look on how to better our mornings and desire to wake up everyday saying “Good Morning God!”

Good Morning God - Learn how to pray in the morning

In our modern society, the morning is considered the start of the day. We wake up from hopefully a peaceful night of rest and get geared up for what the day will hold.

But when we roll out of bed we actually have a choice to make. We can either decide to have our eyes and attention set on Jesus …or we can just roll out of bed and focus on our to-do list for the day.

And trust me it’s easy to just focus on our tasks…

  • Wake up the kids
  • Get dressed
  • Make Breakfast
  • Exercise
  • Get ready for work/school

Our mornings can move so fast that we don’t even think to tell God, “Good Morning…”

So, today I want to share my heart behind morning prayer and saying good morning to God!

A Good Morning with God

Good morning Jesus

Lots of things can constitute a good morning:

  • A good night sleep or sleeping in
  • A delicious breakfast
  • A hot shower
  • Not having to go to work

And those are all great things! But they really just satisfy our body and soul.

We want a good morning for our soul, body, AND spirit! We can do that by taking some time and spending it with Jesus. This will take your common good morning and let it become exceptional or should I say supernatural!

Mornings Are Powerful

Mornings with God are seen all throughout scripture. From the Old Testament saints like Abraham and King David to the New Testament with Jesus and the apostles.

According to Jewish history morning prayer was established by Abraham.

And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD. – Genesis 19:27

For Jews, morning prayer begins about two hours before sunrise. They believe that the Lord visits the Earth during this time. They speak morning blessings from scripture and thank God.  They also sing psalms and praise God.

My Bible teacher always used to call morning prayer as your plumb line for the day. It’s the thing that keeps you centered or how I like to call it…Keeps you “anchored“.

Good Morning Lord Quote by Adrian Rogers "The prayer offered to God in the morning during your quiet time is the key that unlocks the door of the day. Any athlete knows that it is the start that ensures a good finish."

Also, when we wake up our mind is usually clear and nothing had really shaken us up since the day hasn’t started. This gives us an opportunity to make God first in our day.

On the flip side if you are facing a lot of problems or stress. Your morning might feel like a drag since it’s another day hardship. Again this makes for an awesome opportunity to start your day right! By leaving that heavy yoke to God and surrendering to Him

So, don’t take your mornings for granted. It’s a powerful opportunity for you to meet with God! And I promise, you will see a huge change in yourself.

I started this year that right when I place my feet on the floor I pray. And It’s amazing how quickly I begin to feel God’s presence by thanking Him for this new day. Give it a try! It will bless you.

Good Morning God!

So, what does it look like to say good morning, to God? Well, it can look different for everyone. You might spend time in prayer, or worship, read your Bible, journaling or a combination of many things.

The main goal is to just spend time with God in the morning. But one of the most common and beneficial way is to spend time in prayer.

So, we will take a look on giving God a good morning prayer! One that will bless you and bless Him!

Good morning God messages, Charles Spurgeon "It is a good rule never to look into the face of a man in the morning till you have looked into the face of God."

Things We Should Pray for in the Morning

It’s easy to get caught up in spiritual things and have no idea how to apply them personally to your life.

So, I want to break down on things you can pray during your morning prayer time. And for more inspiration please check out:

But don’t feel like it has to look a certain way or go in some kind of order. Let yourself be real and open before the Lord. Share with Him the things that are on your heart. This can include your family, work, church, and/or world events.

Alright, let’s get started!

Thanksgiving

Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name. – Psalm 100:4 AMP

Giving thanks to God for your day is a wonderful way to worship and show your appreciation. But according to Psalm 100 it says we enter His gates with thanksgiving. This means that giving thanks draws us closer to God and His presence.

Protection

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. – Psalm 91:1-3 NKJV

Praying for protection for yourself and your family is a wonderful and powerful thing to do. Another thing you can pray for is put on the full armor of God on. (Ephesians 6:10-18)

Guidance

Direct my steps by Your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me. – Psalm 119:133

I always ask the Lord to guide me through my day. And that things He has planned for this day would come to pass. That I would be at the right place and the right time.

Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. – James 1:5

As I ask for God’s guidance I always like to like to ask that He gives me wisdom throughout my day. Wisdom in my dealings with people and wisdom with work…

Peace

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7

We are constantly bombarded with things that want to steal our peace. Ask the Lord to give you peace throughout your day. That whatever comes your way would roll off you back and that you can put your trust in Him.

Devotion

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. – Romans 12:1

I am a big fan of praying for our hearts to draw closer to the Lord.  We should desire for more hunger, passion, and dedication to the Lord. And one way we can stir this up is by asking for it in prayer.

Blessing

“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24-26

Morning prayer is also a good time to pray for blessings over yourself, family, friends and whatever the Lord leads you to.
