I find this is a fun way to learn about aspects of the Bible. Great for adults and for kids to learn about the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Godhead; He has many roles and purposes. Here are a few facts about Him that you may not have known. So, let’s dig in!

Holy Spirit Fact 1 – The Holy Spirit Is A Person

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. – 1 Corinthians 2:10 NKJV

Many people believe that the Holy Spirit is some kind of invisible force or power. But the Bible tells us that he is a person, and not just any person – but God Himself.

The Holy Spirit is a divine being who guides believers on their journey to salvation through his power over all things in this world. He was present in Jesus’ life from birth (Luke 38-41) right up until His death on the cross for our sins (Luke 23:46).

Holy Spirit Fact 2 – The Holy Spirit Is Part Of The Trinity

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, – Matthew 28:19 NKJV

We see that the Holy Spirit is a person and God Himself, which makes Him part of the blessed Trinity. Three in one, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. – 1 Corinthians 12:1 NIV

Holy Spirit Fact 4 – The Holy Spirit Helps Us Produce Good Fruit

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. – Galatians 5:22-23 NIV

The Holy Spirit helps produce good fruit in our lives. When we are filled with Him, He imparts peace and joy (and many others…9 in total) to us so that we can better carry out His work on earth.

Holy Spirit Fact 5 – The Holy Spirit Speaks To Us

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. – Romans 8:16 NIV

This is a fact that I love about the Holy Spirit. He loves speaking to His children. He does this through dreams, visions, still small voice, and more.

Holy Spirit Fact 6 – The Holy Spirit Replaced Jesus On The Earth

But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. –  John 16:7 NIV

When Jesus walked the earth He did so much for us and when He was resurrected He didn’t just leave us. He sent the Holy Spirit! And as believers, He lives and works inside of us.

Holy Spirit Fact 7 – The Holy Spirit Convicts Us Of Sin

But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: – John 16:7-8

We know that if we sin, the Holy Spirit will convict us of our sins and bring them to light before God. This then leads us to repentance and being made clean by the blood of Jesus.

Holy Spirit Fact 8 – The Holy Spirit Is A Teacher

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. – John 14:26

We know that the Holy Spirit brings us comfort and nurtures us. But He is also a teacher. The Word is clear that He will teach us all things and remind us of everything Jesus has said to us.

It’s important for Christians to be open-minded about what God teaches them through the Holy Spirit, even if it doesn’t seem logical to man, but it will line up with the Bible.

Holy Spirit Fact 9 – The Holy Spirit Guides Us To All Truth

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. – John 16:13

It is His job to guide us into all truth, and without Him, we would be lost.  He does not speak on his own; he speaks what He hears from the Father— what is yet to come. The Holy Spirit guides us in every aspect of our lives with love, kindness, peace, and joy – even when don’t think we deserve it.

Holy Spirit Fact 10 – The Holy Spirit Brings Freedom

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.2 Corinthians 3:17

Do you want to experience freedom? Then you need the Holy Spirit. He brings us true freedom, and without Him, we are enslaved to sin.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. – Ephesians 4:30

This fact solidifies that the Holy Spirit is a person and not a stoic one at that. Our actions and words can actually grieve Him. We can actually make Him sad. It really makes you think twice about what you say and do.

Holy Spirit Fact 12 – The Holy Spirit Brings The Anointing

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
    because the Lord has anointed me
    to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
    to proclaim freedom for the captives
    and release from darkness for the prisoners,
– Isaiah 61:1

Without the Holy Spirit, the anointing is not present. It is Him who brings it upon the believer and it’s the anointing that breaks a heavy yoke and transformation.

Holy Spirit Fact 13 – The Holy Spirit Has Many Symbolism Throughout The Bible

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. – Ephesians 1:13–14

The Bible is like a treasure chest. You open it up and you see so many different facets about God’s truth. The Holy Spirit is like a diamond. Everywhere you turn it you see a beautiful side of Him.

Holy Spirit Fact 14 – The Holy Spirit Has Many Names Throughout The Bible

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. – Genesis 1:2

Have you heard of Spirit of God, Comforter, Holy Ghost, and Advocate? Much like the Bible is rich with the Holy Spirits’ symbolism it’s also rich in His names. And if you study His names you will see attributes and characteristics of Him that you never knew!

Holy Spirit Fact 15 – The Holy Spirit Intercedes On Our Behalf

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. – Romans 8:26-27

What a good God we serve! He is praying/interceding for us.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: – John 16:7-8

We know that the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, but He doesn’t leave us there. He leads us to repentance and salvation. He causes our hearts to soften so we will turn to Him.

Holy Spirit Fact 17 – The Holy Spirit Is Mentioned In The First Chapter Of The Bible And The Last.

The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. – Genesis 1:2

And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. – Revelation 22:17

The Holy Spirit is a KEY player throughout scripture. He is not some backseat figure. He is at work throughout all the stories in scripture and He is still at work in our lives.


We’ve learned so much about the Holy Spirit. For example, He is a person and part of God’s trinity–just like Jesus! The Bible says that when we are baptized in water and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. And it was not just for people who lived during biblical times but also for us today!

And this means we have received His gifts from Him too. So what can you do to grow closer to Him?
